Meet the Team
Soren Edwardes
Soren is a rising junior at Nantucket High School and has been working on the oyster farm alongside his dad and brother for a number of years now.
His culinary interests were sparked with seasonal work in the kitchens of Proprietor’s and now Great Harbor Yacht Club. All of the mignonette’s served at the raw bar are created by Soren!
Hawkin Edwardes
Hawkin Edwardes was born and raised on Nantucket Island and began working on his family’s oyster farm when he was 12 years old. His father, Simon, is the founder of Fifth Bend Oysters.
From cultivating oysters as seeds, harvesting them all summer on the farm, and then shucking and sharing them with guests over a raw bar, Hawkin has a true appreciation for a farm to table experience. Alongside his father, he has been behind the raw bar at the Nantucket Yacht Club for the last few years. And this year, Hawkin has decided to branch out on his own with Shells Angels Raw bar.
A 2024 graduate of Nantucket High School, Hawkin will be attending Cornell University in the fall to pursue a degree in Agricultural Studies. He looks forward to applying what he learns to both the family farm and his business in the coming years.
Alex Freeman
Alex is a rising senior at the University of New Hampshire, soon to complete a degree in Entrepreneurial Studies.
Having worked on the oyster farm for 8 years, he is planning to return home after his studies and continue to grow the businesses of Fifth Bend Oysters and Shells Angels Raw Bar.
Wes Thornewill
Wes is a 2023 Nantucket Golf Club Foundation Scholar, now pursuing a degree in International Relations and Business at Boston University.
As a rising sophomore, he has time to explore his career options and looks forward to finding a career path where he can help people.
